Bondi Beach, Australia (November 16, 2007) Thousands of people gathered on Bondi Beach to attend “SAVE THE WHALES AGAIN!” Campaign anti-whaling rally while becoming part of a unique ‘aerial art’ image to bring attention to the plight of the Australian Humpback whales and the more than 1,000 whales that are now being threatened by the Japanese Whaling fleet. A press conference kicked off the event.
Campaign Board-member John Quigley of Spectral Q brought a design of Venus, the official adopted humpback whale of Sydney sketched by Howie Cook, co-founder of Surfers for Cetaceans, to life in a massive whale made up of more than a thousand people that measured over 300 feet long.
Special guests included “Save the Whales Again!” Campaign spokespersons Isabel Lucas, Dave Rastovich, Mimi Macpherson, and Bondi Beach Mayor Ingrid Strewe. “Polls have shown that over 87% of Australians want our government to take action
to stop the Japanese from whaling in our territorial waters said Isabel Lucas. “We are
calling on our government to send the Australian Navy down to protect the whales in our waters.”
Isabel Lucas & Jeff Pantukhoff “The Japanese Whaling fleet is on its way to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary with the intention of killing 935 Minke Whales, 50 endangered Fin Whales, and 50 endangered humpback whales in Australian Territorial Waters and we simply cannot allow this to happen!” said Save the Whales Again! Campaign founder Jeff Pantukhoff. “Our campaign is leading a growing international movement for the enforcement of
International whaling laws.” added campaign spokesperson Dave Rastovich, co-founder of Surfer for Cetaceans. “There is no way to humanely kill a dolphin or whale and their meat is unhealthy to eat. Its time to end this barbaric industry”. Dave Rastovich Jeff Pantukoff emphatically closed the event stating. “We are calling upon Australian’s and citizens all around the world to NOT purchase any products made in the whaling nations of Japan, Norway and Iceland until they stop killing dolphins and whales! We’ve done it before, its time to Save the whales Again!”
